Freetrain Ultra 1 & Pacer review
Ultralight, race-day cut for when every gram matters.
The Ultra 1 and the Pacer are the stripped-back end of the range: lighter, lower-profile carriers for racing and fast sessions, when you want your phone with you for tracking or safety but nothing else.
Race-day priorities
On race day you want kit you forget about. The Ultra 1 trims material and structure down to what's needed to keep a phone secure. It's a good fit under a race number and works well for fast tempo sessions.
The Freetrain Pacer is the simplest option of all and a good entry point if you want to try chest-carrying a phone before committing to a fuller vest.
What you give up
Less storage and less structure. If you want flasks, choose the Hydro 2. If you want the easiest everyday screen access, the V2 is more practical.
What I like
- Lightest options in the range
- Low profile under a race bib
- Pacer is an affordable way in
Watch out for
- Minimal storage
- No hydration
Verdict
Buy the Ultra 1 for racing and fast sessions; try the Pacer if you want the simplest, cheapest way to start.
